"The flame must be alive!" - Chiam See Tong

On Sunday, 20 May, 7 young Singaporeans staged the play, "Chiam's Finest Hour", to recount Mr Chiam See Tong's defence of the 22 Singaporeans who were arrested under Singapore's Internal Security Act in May 1987.

See our earlier report on the event here.

We spoke to Mr Chiam after the event, where he was the Guest of Honour.

We asked him what made him so certain at that time - May 1987 - that those arrested and detained were innocent. And how he felt, as the lone opposition MP in Parliament then, when his motion to ask the Government to release the detainees, was amended instead to praise the Government's actions and passed by members.

Here is our interview with the former Member of Parliament for Potong Pasir.
